Choose wisely.
The election season has ‘almost’ begun, and as though a
compulsion, ‘publicity stunts’ are also gaining momentum.
Let us talk about a comment that a (so-called) politician made
recently.
He said that the Kargil War was won not because of the joint
efforts of the army, but because of the Muslim soldiers, and that the Hindu
soldiers have played no role in the massive win.
Is this the least that our politicians can stoop to? Have
our standards become so low?
Segregating our army on the basis of religion is probably
the worst possible form of polarism.
The Indian Army was until now the only part of our
ill-minded society which was kept away from religion-based differences. All
that our Army does for us is collective effort. They do it out of love for the
nation, irrespective of their religion.
Our country is currently facing the kind of situation which
it hasn’t faced in years! It is now our responsibility to alert ourselves, and
to elect leaders who are worthy of the positions they get.
Leaders like the one mentioned above have NO RIGHT to make
such comments. If all they want to do is create religious differences, and create
disunity among the already disunited population, then they DO NOT deserve to be
a part of Indian politics. We’re in need of leaders who have the ability to
unite the population irrespective of caste, creed, sex, religion, or any such
difference.
We have seen time and again that the Indian population is
highly fickle-minded when it comes to choosing leaders. One day we support a
particular leader, and the next day he becomes the evil one.
It is high time now that we decide upon what is good for the
nation as a whole, and not for a particular section of the society.
The belief that the nation will develop only if the
development begins from various sections of the society is also not completely
false. But at this point of time, we need collective development and not
selective development. And let us also keep in mind that if we look towards
collective development, selective development will also follow.
We need to begin from the constituency-level itself. If such
unworthy leaders take up positions at the constituency level, then they will
slowly spread their feet try to pollute the higher levels as well.
So this election let us take up the initiative of electing
wisely, rather than electing for personal benefits.
